Approval of 4 m Corridor around Basel

The Swiss Federal Office of Transport (FOT) has approved plans to expand the 4-metre corridor in the Basel area. Tracks will be lowered in two tunnels and bridges will be renovated between Basel St. Johann and Basel SBB, enabling the transport of semi-trailers with a four-metre loading gauge. Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2026 and finish by the end of 2029. The project is expected to cost around CHF 114 million. Profile adjustments are also planned on the French side under a bilateral agreement.
