ICM at Saarbrücken Gbf after derailment

The incident occurred when the second wagon of a freight train derailed while leaving track 127, damaging several switches and sections of the catenary. Although the derailed wagon has been removed, the affected infrastructure requires extensive repair works, and through traffic over tracks 127 to 130 remains unavailable.

Current operational situation

• Despite these constraints, approximately eight international freight trains per day are currently able to pass through Saarbrücken. Under normal operating conditions, around 25 international freight trains use this route daily towards France.
• Railway Undertakings requiring locomotive changes at Saarbrücken are encouraged to divert traffic via alternative stations or border crossing points whenever possible.
• Railway Undertakings should also consider that Perl–Apach is currently only partially staffed on the SNCF Réseau side when planning diversion routes.
  To minimise the impact on international freight traffic, the German Timetable Office in Karlsruhe is currently assigning diversion routes within the German network for affected services over the coming weeks. Where these national diversions cannot be implemented due to operational constraints—such as route knowledge, rolling stock compatibility or safety certification requirements—Railway Undertakings are requested to organise alternative international routes in coordination with their French partners.
